Relais and Chateau Mammertsberg is about an hour drive away from Zurich by car and can easily be reached by public transport (train). This is a hidden boutique hotel with six guests rooms and suites and has a gourmet restaurant which boasts 17 Gault Milla points and 1 Michelin star. This is a hidden gem in the canton of Thurgau and overlooks Lake Constance and the Appenzell Alps.
Swiss architect Tilla Theus is responsible for the aesthetically pleasing renovation of Mammertsberg in 2013. She is also responsible for Fifa headquarters design. The circular staircase from the restaurant takes you up to the lounge. The details are perfectly simple and elegant and the materials are of a very high quality. The glass lift is simple and beautifully made. When I entered the lift I thought It resembles the one in the Fifa headquarters. It was later I found out about the architect.
Breakfast was served and beautifully presented in a lovely small room with the biggest and most beautiful candelabrum I’ve ever seen, made from 1500 Swarovski crystals. We had tasty fresh bread and croissants. Freshly made muesli, juice and fruit salad. We were offered cooked breakfast which I declined. I couldn’t manage to eat that much food, especially in the morning. My guy indulged in some cheese and cut meats.
To the back of the building – steps lead down to an outside cocktail lounge and restaurant, set in a garden – surrounded by trees and countryside. Just the right place to sit back and enjoy the beauty that nature offers, while sipping on a good wine or champagne.
