It was a spontaneous decision to go away for a few days! Once we heard the weather forecast we decided to take a short vacation to escape from the rainy period. We had more than enough rain this summer so it was really impossible to make plans for any kind of outdoor entertainment. A little frustrating!
You can find many beautiful places in Switzerland to take a vacation so there was no need to go searching for flights. We decided to go to Ticino. I love this area! When I’m there I always feel as if I’m in another country exploring small alleyways, antique shops and lots of art galleries. The language is Italian.
Above the city of Locarno is the small town of Orselina.Villa Orselina is an amazing small boutique hotel with 28 rooms and suites. It is listed as one of the small luxury hotels of the world. It has a spa, indoor and outdoor pool and restaurant that serves delicious food. From Villa Orselina you have breathtaking panoramic views overlooking Lake Maggiore.
On arrival, we were offered refreshments before we were shown to our suite which had a fantastic view of Locarno and Lake Maggiore. Although we had the most stunning suite which was fully equipped (I could have stayed inside until the vacation was done) we quickly changed into swimwear and headed to the pool area. I went to the pool restaurant and ordered a light lunch – prawns with salad. Scrumptious!
